Coaching Application
Interested in coaching? Great! We are always looking for coaches to help our players learn the great game of hockey! This page will provide you with information on the coaches application process and steps needed to become a coach.
Every athlete comes with different experiences, drive, skill, and passion. Some kids have confidence beyond their skills and some have unbelievable skills with a lack of confidence. As a coach, it is paramount to navigate all of these nuances while providing a fun, competitive, and educational experience.

Coaching positions are unpaid (as our all the organizational roles in the club). This a a volunteer run club. Coaches do receive reimbursement for some travel expenses and if you have a child in the club, you'll receive a discount on their team fees.
STEPS TO BECOME A RAPIDS COACH
All steps below must be complete by the deadline. Deadlines are not negotiable. BRYHC is governed by Oregon Hockey and USA Hockey which dictate the deadlines.
You MUST ensure that you have everything completed on time or you will not be allowed to step on the ice.
1. Complete the online Coaching Application
- Required every year.
- Deadline: May 10 for Head or Assistant Coaching Positions. No deadline for practice coaches, but preferably we want to hear from you no later than late Summer/early Fall.
2. USA Hockey Membership
- Required every year.
- Deadline: Prior to first team practice
3. USA Hockey CEP Level training
- Must be completed each season, depending on your certification level.

- Deadline: Dec 31 for USA Hockey, but Rapids preferred deadline is prior to first team practice.
4. USA Hockey CEP Online Age-Specific Module
- Every coach also needs to complete the age-specific online module for the age they wish to coach.

- Deadline: Prior to first team practice
5. SafeSport training
- Every volunteer, including coaches, must complete SafeSport training annually.
- USA Hockey confirmation number is required.

6. USA Hockey background check
- Required every 2 years.
